Snow joke: Oldhamers prepare to grit and bear it

Date published: 18 January 2013

OLDHAMERS were keeping their fingers crossed the predicted snow forecast for today was going to skirt the region.

Much of the UK woke up to a thick covering of snow while Oldham suffered only a light dusting.

Temperatures barely got above freezing in Oldham yesterday, a position set to continue all weekend.

Gritters have been out in force and the Highways Agency is advising motorists to check weather forecasts before travelling.

Chronicle weatherman Damian Rodgers had better news for the weekend — he believes Oldham will be cold but dry.

But he added: “But I would expect to see snow on Monday or Tuesday.”

PANIC, PANIC, PANIC! It might snow in winter. For goodness sake.

Are we scared stiff of a bit of snow? Surely we should be used to it by now, so why all the panicking every year.

We do seem to go a bit Corporal Jones every year.

I managed to travel from Rastrick to Didsbury this morning, via Oldham, and didn;t have a problem.

The media and press in this country really need to be careful about how they report the weather. They build it up as a major panic, when in reality if people prepared properly and added a bit of extra time to their journey, there wouldn't be a problem.

Oldham open for business - shame other Councils dont bother - We get value for Money from #teamoldham - Shame on headteachers who pull the shutters down at the first flake of snow - betcha they dont all live in Oldham :-(

So it snowed so what ,it is winter and we should expect a bit of snow ,how would we cope if we lived in other parts of the world that have snow for months and mountains of it day day out :(.
