Reece nets new car for winner

Date published: 28 January 2013

LIFELONG Latics fan Martin Thomas thought the chance of Latics winning against Liverpool was such a longshot he promised the match winner a new car!

But now the season-ticket holder who owns Optima Cars, in Chadderton, has promised to honour his pre-match claim and hand the scorer of the match-winning goal a Peugeot 206.

He said: “I made the offer thinking it was a long shot but I will be delighted to be presenting the car to Reece Wabara.

“As a lifelong supporter and sponsor of the club this was a fantastic day for the town.”

Season-ticket holder Clare Maddison, from Shaw, vowed to quit smoking if Latics won.

She said: “I have spent the last 20 minutes crying my eyes out. I am so proud. This was a massive yard-dog performance. Brilliant.

“I literally have no words. Guess I’m giving up smoking at midnight. What can I give up to the football gods for the Everton match?”

Steven Shipman, who was born in Oldham but now lives in Stockport, said: “I’ve never been as proud to be an Oldham fan. I can honestly say that this means more than all the other cup wins that we’ve had. To the point where all I could do was sit there with my head in my hands and take it all in. I’m very very proud.”

Season-ticket holder Will Gough, from Shaw, said: “Where to start? It was one of those games which you expect to get nothing from and hope to see the lads put in a shift.

“It shows that they can do it and have the talent and desire — we just need to transfer it to the league.

“Get Dickov an experienced assistant and we could push on to safety this season, he’s a likeable bloke and needs the players to start playing like that every week for him. Make or break time.”

Great Result and Great Day, but lets just push on now - Beating Liverpool will not keep us in league 1!

well done that lad! If the plyers would show the determination to win league games perhaps OAFC would not be
standing , again on the trapdoor to div2 A while since I made a comment but after such a victory perhaps a little bit of praise may be just whats needed. And bigger crowds for the league games
