Scholes own goal

Red-faced United star’s car nabbed after he leaves it on drive with engine running
MANCHESTER United star Paul Scholes scored an own goal when he left his car on the driveway of his Grasscroft home with the engine running — and someone pinched it

The red-faced former England star (38) left the car to defrost yesterday morning while he popped indoors.

But when the midfield maestro and Latics fan returned, his £30,000 Chevrolet Captiva LTZ estate had gone.

The grey Captiva was the player’s choice from the car maker, which sponsors United and offered each player a car as part of the deal.

A police spokesman confirmed officers were investigating the theft.

Police advise motorists always to stay with their car when the engine is running — even if it is on the owner’s driveway.

Come on Scholesy think about the environment. Isn't it enough that you drive a giant gas-guzzling car without wasting petrochemical resources for your own convenience? If it needs defrosting just boil a kettle.

It just proves that the preening primadonna premier league footballers aren't even able to get into a cold car! Let alone de-ice it properly!
How can it be when you live in an enormous home that the car isn't in the garage?
Well I guess being paid so much means that you don't have to worry when your stupidity leads to the loss of your car and insurance won't cover it.

Blimey GFBunn & Flake, let's hope neither of you two ever make a mistake!! Ps not at all jealous are you?

OK, he made a mistake, but you couldn't get any further away from a 'preening primadonna footballer'than Paul Scholes. He's actually a very nice down to earth bloke.

As the report states, the car is provided to the player as part of the clubs sponsorship agreement with Chevrolet. Given this fact, I would doubt that Scholesy even had to worry about insuring the car, therefore, the only thing he has to worry about is the "mickey-taking" that his team-mates will give him in traing!

In fairness, his Bentley and Range Rover were likely to be in his garage!

It also shows that he needs to "up" his security!

What worries me is the crime. Either somebody has been staking out Scholes home waiting for an opportunity, or there are so many opportunist thieves hanging around on the offchance of something like this. I know that where I live (next to Boundary Park), if you leave anything out accidentally, it is gone the next day. I caught a traveller one morning helping himself to some of my property and he basically said that anything left out was his for the taking.

Oh dear flake, primadonna and paul scholes certainly dont go in the same sentence. i think you just like seeing your comments on here so you can say to your mates " see me on the chron website last night" silly silly flake

I know where paul lives and it's not the place were you would get thives just walking past, obviously someone has been lying in wait for this to happen.
All said and done,he shouldn't have left he's car running.

GFBunn - yeah, boil a kettle then watch the windscreen crack when you pour the boiling water over frozen glass.......

Tepid to warm tap water is good enough.

Flake, let's hope you never fall off that pedestal you have put yourself on, it's gonna be a long drop!

From what I have heard from friends that met him recently, he is a down to earth bloke that doesn't mind taking time out to make a young lads day.

Old_Mancunian: Unfortunately, this is a common crime on cold winter mornings, one which happens day-after-day during freezing spells of weather.

There will be opportunist criminals who will roams the streets early in the morning looking for an opportunity to steal something, and if the opportunity presents itself, they will take it.

I know that Saddleworth used to be targeted as it was seen as having "rich pickings" by criminals from the surrounding area!

I used to do this when I lived in Scotland, use your spare key to lock it while the engine runs, maybe a bit too clever for a footballer.

Glad_I_left where would we be without your pedantry? And where did I suggest pouring boiling water over the windscreen? Only a fool would do so!

Allow me to clarify for you - boil a kettle, then mix it with some tap water in a jug - waiting for the water to get hot enough from the tap would be equally wasteful.

Paul is no Primadonna! He is probably the best central midfielder the country has ever seen. The lads well known to be down to earth, friendly and polite. I know a few people who have dealings with him and they all say the same. He was obviously targetted and no doubt the car was well off the main road on his drive. I do the same with my car but my gates are locked and the dog is loose, any car thieves would be welcome to have a go!

I have met Paul quite a few times and primadonna he certainly is not. He is very down to earth and very nice and also charitable not like a lot of the footballers. Also, it is odd as I knew where Paul lives and you would have to go up a very long private drive to get to his property. I hope the police find his car.

This isnt a football jealousy matter !!! end of the day a car has been stolen from Greenfield which isnt anything to be happy about !!!!! sad football supporters

As a Liverpool supporter I will also add that Paul Scholes is no primadonna and is just a average guy with a massive talent. The sad thing is a car was stolen, would it get this much publicity if it was an average joe public. No.

qwerty1 why are football supporters sad????? weird comment.

kitten hill , the sad comment is meant to point out the sad rivalry between football fans !!!!! as some people were forgetting that a crime has been committed and should be nothing to do with his profile as a footballer. as you piont out hes a average guy with a massive talent!
