Every school to get a slice of sports cash

CASH being pumped into primary schools must be spent on a legacy, Oldham teachers have urged.
The plea came after the prime minister pledged to hand out £150 million to schools for sport, with Oldham getting £769,600.
All Oldham primary schools can expect to receive money: a school with 250 pupils around £9,250 for two years.
Vicky Dean, Oldham’ partnership development manager, said expectations had originally been of around £3,000 per school.
She said: “This is a significant investment — much more than we anticipated and fantastic news. We must make sure the cash is spent in a way that has long-term impact.

You could get a lot of bean bags for nine grand.
I don't believe that Flake understands either the role or the responsibilities of Governing Bodies.
Well it's nice of flake to give us a totally irrelevant comment.
This sounds good BUT just how many primary schools has got even a blade of grass to do sports on i know of 3 schools that have no grass for the kids to do sports on so is this money going to be spent on sports you can only do on tarmac a lot of sports need grass .
Do kids need grass to play on at that age? There's no sport that can't be played by such young kids without a few painted lines & basic equipment. Getting them active & involved is the key thing.
I loved sports at school. A teacher, any teacher, would take us out and organise a football match. I think a football can be had for three quid and we supplied the goals with our jackets. I cannot understand how such huge amounts of cash are required just to get the kids enjoying sport. After school we would then play more football with a few parents involved. Why have things changed so much?
@timberwolf I suspect a chunk of the money would go towards specialist coaching or perhaps transport to take children to an appropriate facility such as a secondary school's sports hall or to a local cricket club to use its pitch. £3000 won't actually go very far.
Timberwolf, for once I agree but I think in this day and age there are too many other distractions like TV, computers, mobile phones etc to entertain!! Hopefully this money can motivate kids to partake in sport as an alternative source of entertainment
I hope all the funds meant to go to schools get there and non is retained by the council as "overheads".
Thats the point I am making JMTS, why do the schools now need specialist coaches and transportation to facilities? As a school child we were never transported around to participate in sport and never had specialist coaching. We made do with the facilities we had. Maybe taking sport too seriously at a young age is where it all goes wrong? If children do not enjoy it they will not engage in it.

Teachers are living on a different planet to the rest of us so don't expect this to be treated with any gratitude or respect.
Despite being extremely well rewarded many of them have gone on strike again for even more money! The governors should lock them out and keep them out until they sign no strike agreements !
