The father of murdered policewoman Nicola Hughes is preparing to go to the end of the earth to create a lasting legacy for his late daughter.
Nicola died last September when she answered a bogus burglary call with colleague Fiona Bone and was shot by wanted man Dale Cregan.
Nicola’s death shook the close-knit Diggle community and hundreds signed a book of condolence following her packed funeral at Kiln Green Church.
Her devastated dad, Bryn Hughes, has now recruited friends Robert Stapleton and Mark Sharples to join him for the North Pole Marathon on April 9.
The Northern-most marathon on Earth will see the brave trio complete 26 miles over the frozen Arctic Ocean, where temperatures range from -20C to -60C. All the money they raise will be split between three charities, the North West Police Benevolent Fund, Care of Police Survivors and Victim Support.
Bryn said: “I want to honour Nicola’s memory in a remarkable way and do something she would have been proud of. “
