STARSTRUCK Scott Needham got to meet his singing hero for the second time when his parents took him on a celebratory cruise.

The trip was to mark his 25th birthday, and to reward Scott, who has Downs Syndrome, for the work he put in during six years at Oldham College.

He chose a mini-cruise from Southampton for his treat: “He loves to dress smartly and eat out, but mainly because his favourite singer Russell Watson was singing on the ship.”

Scott met Russell nine years ago when he was 16, following a concert in Southport. His dad Stuart wrote to Russell saying he was his son’s favourite - and Russell invited him backstage.

On board the cruise ship earlier this month the family mentioned Scott had met Russell before — and before the concert they were told Russell would like to meet Scott again backstage after the show.”

“Scott asked about his family, talked about the last time they met and said he loved the show.”

A delighted Sue added: “Russell was his usual charming and friendly self and we much appreciated him taking the time for Scott.”
