THE father of murdered soldier Lee Rigby says Oldhamers did his son proud at a fundraiser held in his memory.

Phil McClure helped to organise a memorial music gig at concert venue Whittles, to raise money for Help for Heroes and a trust fund set up for Lee’s son, Jack.

Hundreds turned up — including members of Lee’s family and friends from his regiment — to celebrate the life of the 25-year-old fusilier, was killed outside the Royal Artillery Barracks, in Woolwich, last year, and pay their respects. An incredible £2,200 was made for the two causes, with more still to come in.

“It was an absolutely fantastic day, the bands were superb, everybody did Lee proud,” said Phil, from Bardsley, who organised the event alongside venue owners Martin Schofield and John Dodd.
