SHAW youth centre has been given £3,000 by Greater Manchester Police to set up an after-school homework club.

The group, which will run every Thursday (3-6pm), will provide an educational environment for young people in the area. The donation is part of the force’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

The sessions will also help to tackle anti-social behaviour.

Councillor John Dillon, chairman of Shaw District Executive, said: “As the nights get lighter we are conscious more young people will be looking for things to do at night, so we are delighted to be able to offer this homework club.

PC Adam Murphy, of the Royton and Shaw neighbourhood policing team, said GMP was delighted to see a reduction is anti-social behaviour and expected the homework club to help: “This can give young people extra help with homework and make good use of the youth centre resources, allowing them to use their spare time more productively.”
