A THUG who viciously attacked his disabled neighbour and screamed racist abuse at another man in the street has had his jail term cut on appeal.

Andrew Brown (38), of Eldon Street, Oldham, was jailed for 21 months for repeatedly punching his neighbour, spouting a racist slur in public, possessing cannabis and punching another prone victim.

On Friday, three senior judges at London’s Appeal Court upheld a sentence challenge by Brown and cut his jail term to 15 months.

Mr Justice Macduff said Brown attacked his vulnerable neighbour by slamming the car door on his hand and repeatedly punching him in the face. After his arrest, Brown’s home was searched and police discovered cannabis.

Last September Brown and an accomplice attacked another man in the street. A bystander intervened and a fight broke out. As the victim and the bystander tried to escape, Brown ran after them, spitting blood and saliva. and shouting racist slurs.

Brown’s lawyers argued on appeal the judge had handed out a “manifestly excessive” total term.

Mr Justice Macduff, sitting with Lord Justice Aikens and Mr Justice Cooke, cut the overall sentence by six months.
