A CARAVAN site in Saddleworth is an “eyesore”, say residents who don’t want vans and tents there all year round.

Camp site owner Nigel Hadfield, of Well-i-Hole Farm in Greenfield, appealed in October against Oldham Council’s refusal of planning permission for long-stay camping facilities. He can allow tents or caravans for no more than 28 days, with no caravans between October and March and no permanent caravans.

Objecting to the proposals, and pushing for a deferral, David Watson, of Greenfield and Grasscrofts Residents’ Association, said: “This is not nimbyism.

“The caravans are old and tatty. Visitors now refer to it as a travellers’ site, but at least travellers are controlled by the council. You will have no control over this. They’re an eyesore.”

Councillors decided to defer the decision until the next planning meeting after the May local elections.
