A LUCKY Oldham man has won £2.67 million on the National Lottery.
The 42 year old, who understandably is remaining anonymous, lives with his wife on an Oldham council estate.
“The last couple of days have been surreal,” he said. “We have never had anything. There have been a lot of tears; it hasn’t really sunk in yet.”
The winner buys a lottery ticket every week and admits he has been close to stopping several times.
But on Sunday he checked the results on his phone - and had all the numbers.
“At first I just kept checking and checking. You dream of it happening every time, but you never actually think it will happen. When the lottery confirmed we had won I still didn’t believe them.
“I suppose it just goes to show that it really can happen to anyone. This is something that has changed our lives for ever.
The £5.34 million prize fund was split between the Oldhamers and another winner.
Our Oldham winners have now decided to retire, take a holiday... and let the news sink in.
The man’s wife explained that despite their elation after winning, they have also been quite low.
“It’s really strange,” she said. “We have gone from being over the moon one minute to feeling doubtful and quite low because of the size of the shock we’ve had.”
