Gun-axe terror in street robbery

Date published: 08 July 2014

TWO men threatened and robbed four people at gunpoint yesterday in Oldham’s second gun-related crime in just over a week.

The men, aged 19 to 23, were sitting in a VW Golf in Busk Road, Chadderton, at around 1.50am yesterday, when a gunman approached and put the weapon to the driver’s head.

He was with an accomplice carrying an axe and ordered all four out of the vehicle.

The men were then told to empty their pockets and hand over the keys and both offenders made off in the car but stalled it and ran off towards Denmark Street.

Both men are described as being Asian and 5ft 7in tall.

One was of large build and wore a blue balaclava, blue cardigan jacket, khaki Timberland boots and held a pistol.

The second wore a sock hat covering his face, black cardigan jacket and held an axe.

This terrifying ordeal comes just eight days after one man aged 19 was shot in the stomach and another aged 20 was shot in the buttocks while in a parked car in St Mary’s at 10.20pm on June 29.

Andrew Marcus Burke (35), of Holland Road, Crumpsall, has been charged with possession of a firearm in relation to the St Mary’s shooting.
