Football clubs offered purpose-built home

Date published: 22 July 2014

FOOTBALL clubs are invited to make a patch of derelict land in Limehurst their new home.

The council is welcoming bids from clubs to lease the 12.4 acre site at Higher Lime.

It will be upgraded by the council to provide three adult-sized football pitches, a smaller, training pitch, a changing pavilion, car park and room for two mini-pitches.

However, subject to approval from Sport England, the council is happy to consider an alternative, bespoke mix of pitch space and changing facilities which would be tailored to the individual requirements of the chosen club.

This opportunity has arisen following the council’s successful planning application for a residential-led development scheme at the Lancaster Club in Broadway, Failsworth.

The Lancaster Club site currently provides a range of sports pitches and in order to ensure these facilities are retained within the borough, the council is proposing to upgrade the vacant land in Limehurst — in conjunction with a local sports club — to deliver a replacement sports facility.

The proposals have been agreed following consultation with Sport England and the Football Association.

Offers should be submitted in writing and received by the council no later than noon on Friday, August 22.
