RAINBOW flags, stilt walkers and colourful performers are preparing to take part in the 10th annual Oldham Pride event on Saturday.

The theme of this year’s event is “Our Heritage, Our Pride, Our Future” and it aims to celebrate the achievements in the LGBT community over the past decade.

The free event will begin at noon with speeches from civic leaders in Oldham town centre before a parade winds its way through the streets to Gallery Oldham where there will be more entertainment.

The main event, hosted by Rosie Lugosi and Jonathan Mayor, will feature “Britain’s Got Talent” stars Showbears and Bosom Buddies as well as other Pride favourites such as Claire Mooney, OMT Showman, Bryan Mottram, Charlie B, Abba Fusion, the Gay Gordons and the Prairie Dogs as well as budding local talent Emmy Lou.

The event will run from 12.30 until 4.30pm in the gardens of Gallery Oldham and will feature fun circus skills and craft activities for all the family, advice stalls and a donation drop-off point for Oldham Foodbank.

Residents are also being urged help create a giant “Our Heritage, Our Pride, Our Future” banner on the day to record people’s experiences and memories of Oldham Pride over the years plus, the achievements so far and our hopes for the future.
