THE annual Age UK Oldham’s Silver Stars talent contest was a big hit yet again.
This year’s show, which took place recently at the Oldham Coliseum, was dedicated to last year’s winner Harry Ogden who died, aged 85, last month.
The line-up consisted of entirely singers this year with Keith McClenan winning first place.
Age Uk Oldham’s Maggie Hurley, who hosted the contest with Kevin Snape, said the show was a big hit and was well received by the audience.
She said: “I do have to say it was really hot and everyone did particularly well to perform in such heat.
“But as always the show was brilliant everyone enjoyed themselves — performers and spectators alike.
“It is just a fantastic concept to have so much great talent all on one stage, where else could you get something like that for a £1 entry?”
It is tradition that the previous year’s winner opens the show and in his place this year Mr Ogden’s close friend Eileen Gorman read poetry written by him.
Mrs Hurley said: “It was a fitting tribute to Harry. It was wonderful to watch.”
