A STUDENT who took a child in care away without permission, has been punished with a six-month community order.

Caine Andrew Adam Lynch (18) of Silverstone Drive, Failsworth, also pleaded guilty to obstructing a police officer on duty, when he appeared at Oldham Magistrates Court.

The court heard suggestions that Lynch had been spending time with a 14-year-old girl, who was in a local authority care home.

Prosecuting, David Curtis, said that Lynch was issued with a child abduction warning which still exists until the child reaches 18.

On June 20, she was reported missing from her care home but sighted at Piccadilly station the next day with Lynch.

He made off from the scene but she was detained.

On June 26, the girl was found at her father’s house alone with Lynch, who initially gave false details to police.

The court heard that the child had contacted Lynch and asked him to take her there, to which he agreed.

Chair of the magistrates, Judith Howarth, said: “There was no duress. She went with him voluntarily.

“He acted immaturely but we believe he realises the consequences now.”

Lynch must go to an attendance centre, as well as pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
