Tree-mendous!

Date published: 01 August 2014

WINNERS of the Grasscroft Residents’ Association photography competition, celebrating the beauty of trees in spring, have been chosen.

Martin Powell won first prize in the adult competition for his picture looking up to the sky through the trees at Dovestone reservoir.

Mr Powell said: “I do some volunteer photography for the RSPB and I was down at Dovestone taking some pictures of the work they were doing down there.

“I had my wide lens with me and I noticed it was a beautiful sky so I just thought it would make a great shot if I lay down in the grass and took a picture looking up through the trees. It came out exactly as I wanted.

Pleased

“I wasn’t expecting to win at all. My daughter, Sophie, does photography as well and we always swop pictures. So she was very pleased and I want to share the win with her.”

Sarah Ashworth came second in the adult section for her photo of two hearts made by car tyres in the fallen blossom.

Third place went to Ian Hughes for his photo of a tree at Dovestone against the backdrop of Alderman Hill.

Hosted by Tree Watch, the best efforts were judged by Evening Chronicle photographer Darren Robinson.
