Have a say on visitor centre for Dovestone

Date published: 01 August 2014

TIME is running out for people to have their say on plans for a new visitor centre at Dovestone Reservoir.

The public consultation, which began in June, finishes on August 11, with a final drop-in session for people to find out more about the RSPB’s plans for a small visitor hub.

The plans were created following feedback from thousands of people responding to RSPB consultations and surveys over the past five years, highlighting the need for a centre and improved facilities on the site.

The proposed hub will enable all ages to discover more about Dovestone, engage with RSPB staff and take part in a variety of activities.

The hub will include new toilets, a catering kiosk and shelter for visitors.

There will be space for community use and education activities and the creation of more volunteering opportunities.

The preferred location for the hub, which will include office space for RSPB staff, volunteers and a Peak District National Park Authority ranger, is next to Dovestone Sailing Club.

The RSPB, which manages Dovestone in partnership with landowner United Utilities, has worked with UU, Dovestone Sailing Club and the Peak District National Park Authority throughout the process of developing the proposals.

A drop-in session will be held at the RSPB office in Uppermill on Monday, August 11 (3-8pm).

The proposals are available to view online at www.rspb.org.uk/dovestone and visitors can fill in a survey at www.surveymonkey.com/s/RSPBDovestonebuilding
