Turn out the lights

Date published: 04 August 2014

LIGHTS will go out across the borough tonight as Oldham pays tribute to the fallen on the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.

Oldhamers are encouraged to join millions of people across the country in turning off their house lights and lighting a solitary candle for an hour at 10pm tonight.

Services to commemorate the anniversary of the outbreak of the war were being held across Oldham throughout the day.

Until mankind undergoes a fundamental shift in consciousness, begins to appreciate that we are all connected, war will continue to scar our world.
