Turn2us to help ease the burden of power bills
Date published: 08 August 2014
ALMOST nine in 10 Greater Manchester households worry about paying their energy bills.
Turn2us, an organisation that helps people in financial need, is delivering replacement boilers and home insulation to low income families to ease some of the pressure.
The charity has teamed up with the Green Deal Factory to launch the initiative at a time when the shortfall between energy bills and what people can afford to pay has increased by almost £200 in the last 10 years. As a result people are resorting to extreme measures to pay their bills. More than half would risk endangering their health and wellbeing by not using heating in their homes while a third had to rely on the financial support of family and friends to cover their energy bills.
Through this new partnership, people on low incomes can use the Turn2us Benefits Calculator – available at www.benefits.turn2us.org.uk – to see if they are entitled to a free boiler and loft and wall insulation.
