SIXTY-ONE per cent of students at Hulme Sixth Form achieved A*- B grades.

This year’s overall pass rate was 99 per cent and the expected national downward pressure on results was not seen, according to principal designate Craig Mairs.

Ria Saraf was the top performer, achieving an impressive 3 A* grades in biology, chemistry and economics, which secures her place to read medicine at Nottingham.

She said: “I thought I was going to get two As and a B. I didn’t really care as long as it was good enough to go to university.

“But when my mum opened the envelope, we were wondering if I had the right results or not!”

Four other students — Hannah Christo, Naomi Higginson, Amy Morris and James Prince — achieved two A* grades.

James, from Woodhouses, is hoping to go to Imperial College, London, to study computer science. “I got up so early because I couldn’t sleep, I was just waiting for the results to come in,” he said.

Four A-levels, including two A*s in maths and English, secured happy Hannah Christo a place at Manchester to study maths.

In addition, a further six students achieved A grades in at least three subjects bringing the total achieving this benchmark to 11 from a cohort of 60 students. They are: Laurence Gard, Bradley Howe, Josh Sutton, Robert Thackeray, Sanjay Shah and Amy Thompson.

Mr Mairs said: “These performances are the result of a tremendous amount of hard work, and our students and teachers can be very proud of them.”
