Dancing through gap year

BALLET enthusiast Amy Thompson is taking a year out to teach dance at Kennedy’s College, Manchester, before studying physics and philosophy at university.

The Hulme Grammar School student is celebrating after chalking up an A*, an A and three Bs for maths, English literature, physics, further maths and Latin.

She also received an A for the Extended Project Qualification, a tough university-style project.

“I am very pleased,” she said: “I did not really expect to do so well and I am happy I got the grades I needed.”

Amy (18), who lives in Chadderton, was principal oboe in the school orchestra, sang in the choir and was a sergeant in the RAF section of Hulme’s combined cadet force.

Out of school, Amy is studying for her certificate in ballet teaching studies and advanced 1 classical ballet with the Royal Academy of Dance.

Following her gap year, she will study at Royal Holloway University in London.
