KIDNEY care is now closer to home for Oldham patients.
A plaque was unveiled at the official opening of the new dialysis unit by BBC Radio Manchester DJ Mike Sweeney.
Patients receiving treatment at the new unit, in Sheepfoot Lane, previously had to travel to Salford Royal for dialysis three times a week. Now 68 patients can receive treatment in Oldham thanks to the purpose-built unit, which has 20 dialysis stations and other facilities.
Mike Sweeney, who lives in Oldham, said: “This is an absolutely amazing place.”
Ian Moston, Salford Royal’s executive finance director who has responsibility for neurology and renal services, said: “Journey times have been dramatically reduced and patients have said how convenient it is being able to receive treatment practically on their own doorstep.”
