DAVID Murgatroyd will be the proudest man at Wembley on Saturday as he walks on to the pitch with the Oldham RL flag.

David - 45 tomorrow - said: “To fly the flag for Oldham Rugby, the club I’ve supported since I was a boy, is a massive honour.”

A champion from each cup club will join a pre-match parade before Leeds Rhinos take on Castleford Tigers in the Tetley’s Challenge Cup final.

“Players dream of making a Wembley appearance and only a few fulfil it - yet here am I, a fan, being given that opportunity. It will be one of the proudest days of my life,” said David.

David — whose 17-year-old son Nathan is club mascot Roary the Roughyed — was invited to carry the flag by club chairman Chris Hamilton as a thank-you for his voluntary work.

He has been club photographer for six years; is the man on the mic at post-match presentations and a match-day first-aider too.

“It’s been a fantastic year for me,” he said. “I’ve lost six stone in weight and that let me do things I had only dreamed about previously.”

Roughyeds chairman Chris Hamilton said: “David was made up when I asked him to do this for the club and I know he will be very proud.”
