Ammonia sprayed in dog’s eyes

BURGLARS sprayed ammonia into a dog’s face as they ransacked its owners’ home in Shaw, police revealed today.

The offenders broke in to the property, in Thornham Road, some time between 10.30-11.30am on Friday, August 15. They saw border collie Jack and sprayed ammonia in the pet’s face.

They then searched the house and stole personal property including money, a laptop and a mobile phone.

PC Tom Nicholson said: “Not only did the homeowners come back to see their house had been broken into but their beloved dog had been needlessly sprayed in the face with ammonia.

“The dog was in a lot of pain, had injuries to the eyes and was temporarily blinded. He needed treatment at the vets but thankfully the eyes are recovering well.

“I would ask people who may have been walking or driving in the Thornham Road area at the time of the burglary and witnessed anything suspicious, to contact us.”

Anyone with information can phone police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.

This is two weeks ago tomorrow, why not seek witnesses straight away whilst memories are fresh?
Are we having a surge in burglaries at the moment?

The Royton and Shaw police twitter feed has been silent of late.
The last tweet was on the 8th.
The police website states (for my postcode):

Twitter is an ideal medium to assist in getting witnesses as it can be utilised immediately.
I very much hope these people are caught and the victims can move move on and get better soon.
