DELAYS to building work have hit the new Collective Spirit Free School.
The start of the new term was put back a day to yesterday, and pupils will do an eight-day programme of out-of-school activities until the work is completed.
These include library, museum, zoo and art galley visits, as well as adventure activities and lessons at Chadderton Town Hall.
Collective Spirit opened in September 2013, in part of the former South Chadderton School in Butterworth Lane, Chadderton. It is outside local authority control and has currently only year seven and eight pupils.
The school declined to comment on the delay. But in a letter to parents, principal Elizabeth Whitehead said the school wouldn’t be using refurbished school buildings until September 15.
She added: “There will be no loss to education and we believe the opportunities on offer will be engaging and do nothing but enhance pupils’ education.”
