Ice bucket challenge celebration for golden couple

YOU could say Golden Wedding couple June and Mike Allingan had a bucket list — an ice-bucket list!

After the couple were nominated for the globally-popular ice bucket challenge they decided to make it part of their 50th anniversary celebrations.

So dressed in wedding clothes and with June’s chief bridesmaid — her sister Mary — and their son Phil playing the vicar, the Moorside pair re-enacted their special day with the help of three buckets of freezing water.

“We were nominated by my daughter-in-law Diane so we thought we’d combine the two,” said June.

“It was good to raise some money for the ALS Association though.”

June also held a celebratory afternoon tea for her pals at Royton Road Runners on the same day to raise funds for Parkinson’s UK and Sense.

The couple, both 71, met when they were 15 at Pakamac, in Moorside and were married in Lees on October 3, 1964.

They are planning a special second honeymoon somewhere warm: Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and Goa in India, where the only ice will go in their drinks...
