OLDHAM East and Saddleworth MP Debbie Abrahams is backing a Mencap campaign to give people with a learning disability the chance to make their voice heard.
Hear My Voice aims to make politicians view learning disabilities as an issue for the 2015 General Election.
Mencap launched a manifesto setting out its position at the House of Commons. Mrs Abrahams, who attended the launch, said: “It is so important that we do everything we can to support people with learning disabilities.
“We should all be ashamed that some of the most vulnerable children and adults in our society get poor healthcare, are victims of horrendous hate crimes and don’t get access to good state education. It’s time that changed.”
Jan Tregelles, chief executive of Mencap, said: “This is a landmark moment for learning disability.”
