Drivers given 14-day reprieve on fines
Date published: 16 September 2014
Drivers have been given a 14-day reprieve from parking fines after months of upheaval in Uppermill.
From today car park users in Uppermill will receive a warning notice if they have stayed beyond their permitted time, rather than being booked. The move comes at the end of a £1 million pound sewerage-replacement scheme in Church Road which has caused months of traffic disruption.
Parking restrictions were relaxed during the works to enable traders and shoppers access to businesses.
The proposed completion date for the works, carried out by United Utilities, was put back by technical problems but Church Road reopened to traffic at the weekend.
When the works are complete, signs will be placed on car parks in Uppermill reminding motorists that the maximum period of stay is once again enforceable.
The warning notices will only apply to over-time parking - not those wrongly using disabled bays or not parking in designated bays.
