DELIGHTED: Oldhamer Aaron Murphy, left, and his two best mates have been named London’s best buskers
A Chadderton guitarist and his fellow band members have been named London’s best buskers.
Aaron Murphy (23) moved to London last year to pursue a music career with best mates Jack Frimston and Matt Pickersgill as band The Tailormade - which they formed as students at the University of Cumbria.
The trio - who honed their skills on a post-university European busking tour - entered London’s Gigs Big Busk competition, in the hope of being crowned London’s best buskers.
More than 500 street musicians entered and performed across London through the summer, while industry experts and the public picked a shortlist of 18 for the final - which the boys won!
Aaron, who went to St Augustine’s High School, couldn’t believe they had won: “We didn’t expect to; it’s amazing. ”
There is a small problem though: the boys don’t have a buskers’ license and are on a year-long waiting list to get one, so can’t officially perform on London’s streets.
Aaron said: “The licence is something really tough to get and it all seems a bit ridiculous to me.”
The boys now have their sights set on a career in music.
