A YOUNG Oldham opera singer is about to make her home stage debut.

Soprano Eleanor Garside (25) has never performed in her home town but will be one of the leading cast members of Mozart’s The Magic Flute at Oldham Coliseum on October 3.

After leaving Oldham Sixth Form College, Eleanor went on to receive a first in music from Manchester University and a masters at the Royal Northern College of Music.

She has since performed all over the country and won a string of awards.

Eleanor said: “I am really looking forward to being on stage at the Oldham Coliseum, rather than in the stalls. I’ve performed in recitals in the North West, but this is the first time I’ve been able to sing in an opera.”

“I teach a ‘singing for fun’ group, Good Vibrations, in Mossley, and all the members have promised to come along, which will be lovely.”

The Young Opera Venture production will be presented in English by a cast of 17 singers from around the country. The company, founded in 2012, gives young and recently-qualified singers professional experience. Tickets: www.coliseum.org.uk
