‘Deport beast who raped me’ plea

AN Oldham woman is fighting to get an immigrant who raped her when she was 12 years old deported.

Samantha Roberts, now 20, was horrified when her rapist, Shakil Chowdhury, was sentenced to only six years in October 2007. Chowdhury, 39 at the time, served only three years before his release on licence.

He was found guilty of luring Miss Roberts into a car on Manchester Road in October 2006 before taking her back to his home and subjecting her to a sickening ordeal at the hands of himself and others.

Miss Roberts and her partner and lawyer Steven Walker want to see Chowdhury deported to his native Bangladesh. Chowdhury gained British citizenship in 2004, but the Home Office has the authority to deprive him of this in the interests of the public.

Backed by Oldham East and Saddleworth MP Debbie Abrahams, the couple argue it’s not safe to have Chowdhury in the country. The Home Office has yet to comment on whether officials are considering their plea.

“I want him out of this country,” said Miss Roberts. “He poses a threat to the community. If the authorities have the right to do this, I don’t see why they wouldn’t — he is dangerous.”

Mr Walker said: “The Home Office has the right to deport him in the interests of public good. This man raped a 12-year-old girl and is now back on the streets with British citizenship.

“They have the authority to remove a convicted child rapist from our country and this to me is a no-brainer. This man is dangerous and should not be allowed to stay.”
