Market opinions sought
Date published: 30 September 2014
TRADERS and shoppers are being asked for their opinion on plans to invest £120,000 in Shaw market.
Oldham Council’s investment is on top of £100,000 already pledged to support new and existing independent businesses in the district centre.
The focus for shopping has shifted from the market’s current location closer to Asda and Aldi and the council is considering relocating the market closer to the supermarkets to attract more shoppers.
One option is to relocate to Market Street, using movable stalls on market days. A second would see the market relocated to Milne Street.
Both options would involve demolishing stalls on the existing site and using it for car parking.
