THEY gave us clogs and Edam, and now Oldhamer Dave Cunningham is returning the favour by giving Holland the great British banger!

Dave, from Lees, is a big name on the Dutch sausage scene.

His Sausages.nl business grew after Dave (46) fancied a change from his IT career. Having been in the pub and hospitality trade back home in Oldham, he decided try food production and learned how to make sausages.

Six years on, he’s churning out chipolatas, Cumberland coils and other traditional favourites and was even invited on Dutch morning TV recently to showcase his creations.

Dave, who has now lived in Holland for 22 years, lives with his Dutch partner Joke and their sons, Robin (5) and Thomas (7), near Rotterdam.

“The business is going well,” said Dave, who went to Knowsley Junior School in Springhead, and Hulme Grammar before studying microbiology at Sheffield University.

“Expats are my main customers, but I also have plenty of Dutch interest. There are several expat shops here, most of which sell my products, and I also do home deliveries.

“That means a lot of driving around, but I get to see plenty of the country.”

Dave was even asked to make British-style pies on a TV show - and his delicious steak and ale creation was such a hit the recipe now features on his company website www.sausages.nl with a host of other dishes to try.
