IRA bomb father’s peace mission

COLIN Parry, who’s son was killed by an IRA bomb in 1993, delivered an emotional speech at an Oldham peace conference.

The summit, hosted by Oldham Council at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, explored how residents can help those suffering through conflict. Following Tim’s death, Mr Parry set up the Foundation for Peace, a charity project to help British terrorist victims.

The conference was attended by Oldham’s three MPs; local councillors; Tony Lloyd, the Greater Manchester Police and Crime Commissioner; residents and local dignitaries.

Councillor Barbara Brownridge, cabinet member for Neighbourhoods and Co-operatives, said: “Many people in Oldham are upset by conflicts overseas and want to do something to help.

“We wanted to have an honest and practical discussion about the ways in which people can make a difference.”
