Ghosts and ghouls roam streets on spooky Saturday

GIANT vampires, robotic spiders and a cuddly pumpkin invaded Oldham town centre to make Spooky Saturday a day to remember.

Tabitha the Victorian Ghost, the Flying Fox Bats and the Scaredy Cats could also been seen roaming the streets to get the Halloween celebrations off to a ghoulish start.

Youngsters were kept entertained by scary street theatre, fiendish face painting and balloon modelling near Tommyfield Market.

A special tent housed a host of real life creepy crawlies — including tarantulas, centipedes and grasshoppers —and owls.

The floral display in Market Place was also transformed into a haunted masterpiece thanks to the addition of ghosts, pumpkins and a spooky hut.

Sylvia Brent travelled from Middleton with her three grandchildren for Spooky Saturday. She said: “The children all really enjoyed it. It’s great to see free entertainment and activities for young people at the start of half term.”
