Kitchen stinker

AN Oldham company left a family without running water or kitchen appliances for three weeks during a botched £15,000 installation which began nearly two months ago.

Michelle and Andy Taylor from Derby brought in Betta Living — which has an HQ in Suthers Street, Oldham — through their Cannock showroom, to create a dream kitchen.

But a series of errors turned the experience into a nightmare, leaving the house without a kitchen, running water that had to be drawn from an outside tap and no laundry facilities.

Mum Michelle says the trouble started when fitters turned up to build the kitchen and discovered the central island had the wrong measurements and there were issues with work tops.

Instead of trying to fix the problems, Michelle claims they were forced to chase the company for solutions, more serious issues arose and they were left for a week without progress, followed by two weeks of further delays for other reasons..

Despite compiling a five-page list of complaints, the company has refused to offer compensation, aside from waiving the £1,500 installation fee.

Betta Living MD Jamie Dean, said: “We accept Mr and Mrs Taylor’s kitchen project hasn’t gone as smoothly as it should have done, for which we are extremely sorry.

“One of our directors is currently in discussion with the couple and on completion of the project we intend to agree a settlement.”
