CHILDREN at Crompton Primary School have a new playground, courtesy of a £9,900 grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

The money meant the school could transform its early-years playground and outdoor learning area.

The new play area features raised beds, a sandpit, a bridge, a “mud kitchen” and a seating area. A cave and a potting shed have also been installed by Groundwork Trust.

The new equipment is designed to give pupils a better understanding of the environment and enable them to grow their own produce in their own designated growing space.

Head teacher Martin Moore said: “Our reception and nursery children are thrilled with their new outdoor environment. “We were keen to transform the school grounds to promote teaching and learning consistent with our status as an Eco School and we are delighted to have achieved this.
