Youth Council campaigns and goals for the next two years
Date published: 21 November 2014
Oldham Youth Council began its new two-year term of office in April.
Within each term of office OYC identifies key aims that it will achieve within the two years. These include two priority campaigns. For 2014 – 2016 the key aims will be:
To deliver a youth volunteering campaign: OYC aims to work collaboratively with Oldham Council and Voluntary Action Oldham to campaign to increase volunteering opportunities for the young and the numbers taking part in them.
Deliver the I Love Me Campaign: This raises aspirations and emotional wellbeing among the young and includes campaign work on bullying, confidence and self-esteem, mental health and positive body image.
Enhance involvement in commissioning: OYC will continue its involvement in co-commissioning projects from the fund set aside by the council for youth projects. One focus will be Kooth, the online mental health resource for young people.
Increase collaborative working and decision-making: OYC wants to further embed a culture of youth engagement in decision making, particularly on health services, police, education and business.
Increase our profile with young people: OYC wants to enhance its profile among the young people of Oldham, to ensure more are involved in consultation and campaigning work.
