Fall in cancer death rates

CANCER mortality rates for people in Oldham have fallen by 13 per cent in the past decade, but the borough is still the third highest in Greater Manchester, new figures show.

In 2013 almost 174 people per 100,000, in Oldham died before the age of 75 as a result of cancer - a significant drop from 2003 when 199.4 people per 100,000 died.

Oldham follows a similar pattern as the rest of Greater Manchester with all 10 boroughs seeing a fall in mortality rates.

Nationally, the mortality rate fell by 14.7 per cent between 2003 and 2013, falling from 166 people for every 100,000 to 142.
