WHEN kind-hearted staff at a popular hair salon decided to cut their own version of the Band Aid single to raise money to fight Ebola, they had no idea it would take off in such dramatic fashion.

Crooning crimpers at Jo Ferns teamed up with Heartshead Productions to film their fun-filled “Feed the World” music video at the Lydgate-based salon.

Stylists were blown away when within only a few days, the video had already been viewed more than 3,000 times online.

Jo Ferns herself, who came up with the idea, was even contacted by Sir Bob Geldof’s office who complemented them on their hair-raising efforts.

Band Aid 30’s official Twitter account sent out a link to the YouTube video for their 26,000 followers.

Jo said: “I wanted to try and help raise awareness and funds in any way I could.

“I thought it is not just celebrities who care — we all care. So I thought, how about we do our own spin on the Band Aid single.

“We all had a really great time recording the song and making the video but at the end of the day it is for a very serious cause and that needs to be remembered.

“I don’t think some people are aware of what we all need to do to stop this virus spreading, they need money and we want to help.”

Scott Dawson, of Heartshead Productions, said the response they have already had from the video has been staggering.

He added: “It is probably the most fun we have ever had making a video and then the fact it has taken off so much and had so much attention is incredible.”

The aim is to raise £1,000 through the video, with the total currently at £120 the team is appealing for donations. Visit www.just giving.com/jofernsalons.
