CLEAN and green, that’s the Oldham way.

Oldham Council has become one of the country’s greenest public sector fleet operators after adding two 100 per cent electric Nissan e-N200 vans to the eight all-electric Nissan LEAFs it already has in service across the borough.

The groundbreaking vans, supplied by local Nissan dealer West Way Oldham, will join the LEAFs as pool vehicles and will be shared by Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and Greater Manchester Police.

The new vehicles cost only 2p a mile to run and, coupled with zero emissions, will help the council further reduce its carbon footprint.

Councillor Barbara Brownridge, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and co-operatives, said: “We’re really pleased to be adding these two e-NV200s to our fleet, increasing our commitment to electric vehicles and making our fleet even more sustainable.

“The vehicles will be available to anyone who goes out on council business and we have had them fully liveried as a way of making people aware of what the council does in the community without creating a pollution issue at the same time.

“It was always our intention to add electric vans to our fleet and the e-NV200 was the obvious choice given the feedback to the eight LEAFs we took on earlier this year has been fantastic.”

Launched earlier this year, the Nissan e-NV200 combines the NV200 — a former International Van of the Year — with the proven technology of the Nissan LEAF — the world’s bestselling electric car.

Urfi Hossain, business centre manager at West Way Nissan on St Mary’s Way, said: “The e-NV200 is the perfect choice for public sector organisations and, in fact, any business that wants a versatile and capable van with ultra-low running costs.”
