Solicitors see red over closure of contact centre

AN Oldham firm was so angry over the closure of a vital service that staff launched a fundraising awareness day.

In response to the axing of the borough’s Child Contact Centre, Pearson Solicitors came up with “See Red” and called on the support of Oldham Law Association.

The centres create an environment where children can meet the parents they don’t live with and are vital in keeping families in touch with each other, said Stacy Fox, head of childcare at Pearson Solicitors.

The campaign aims to raise money to prevent the closure of Rochdale Child Contact Centre, which is now the nearest venue for Oldham parents and children to meet but is also under threat due to a lack of funding.

A host of the association’s law firms supported the cause by wearing red to work and donating £1.

“Regular contact helps keeps families together but due to a lack of funding these family units are being threatened,” said Stacy, who has helped to organise the campaign.

“The nearest one now is Rochdale, but that too could face closure unless support comes their way.

“Families would therefore have a long expensive trip to Bury for any contact and the Oldham Law Association firmly believes we need to keep local facilities for local families.”
