A 17-YEAR-OLD male has been arrested on suspicion of assault after Chadderton boxer Anthony Crolla suffered a fractured skull when a burglar allegedly hit him with a concrete slab.

Crolla (28) was struck to the head with the heavy object when he chased two burglars who jumped into his garden on Halsey Close after raiding a neighbour's property at 5.30pm on Tuesday.

As they ran from Thorley Close, onto Butterworth Lane and Crescent Road, Crolla managed to grab one of them.

There was a struggle before the offender hit Crolla over the head with a concrete slab, causing him to fall to the floor.

The incident left the have-a-go hero with a fractured skull and broken bones in his foot meaning he had to cancel his upcoming world title fight on January 23.

Police have now arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of burglary, assault and possession with intent to supply drugs. He remains in police custody for questioning.

A 46-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs.

Crolla is recovering well in hospital and said his dream of becoming world champion is far from over.
