FIVE people have been arrested as part of an operation to tackle organised crime in Oldham.

Officers from the Oldham Divisional Organised Crime Unit used search warrants during raid on three addresses in Shaw at around 5.30am on Wednesday following concerns from the community about drugs.

Possession

At the first property in Cunliffe Drive, officers seized £700 in cash and a VW Golf R32 car. A 31-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

Two men aged 26 and 29 were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs at a second house in Cunliffe Drive, where £500 of cocaine, £1,000 in cash and a Taser were seized.

A 22-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs at a house in Gordon Street, with £120 of cannabis recovered.

All five have been bailed pending further inquiries.

Supt Denise Worth, from Oldham police division, said: “This was a joint operation between GMP, Oldham Council, UKBA, the Department for Work and Pensions and HMRC and proves how successful multi-agency work is. We couldn’t have taken the action we did without help from residents and I would encourage anyone with information about those involved in the sale and supply of drugs to come forward and talk to us in confidence.

“The community has shown it’s prepared to work with us in the fight against drugs and I’d like to express my thanks to those who came forward and made all this possible.”
