A 17-YEAR-OLD man arrested on suspicion of assault after Chadderton boxer Anthony Crolla was hit with a concrete slab has been bailed until January 21, 2015, pending an ID parade.

The Chronicle reported last week how Crolla (28) was struck on the head when he chased two burglars who jumped into his garden on Halsey Close after raiding a neighbour’s property at 5.30pm on Tuesday.

As they ran from Thorley Close, on to Butterworth Lane and Crescent Road, Crolla managed to grab one of them.

There was a struggle before one of the raiders hit Crolla over the head with a concrete slab, causing him to fall to the floor.

The incident left the have-a-go hero with a fractured skull and broken bones in his foot meaning he had to cancel his world title fight on January 23.

Police revealed they arrested a 17-year-old man on suspicion of burglary, assault and possession with intent to supply drugs on Friday.

A 46-year-old woman was also arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs.

Crolla is now back at home after recovering well in hospital and said his dream of becoming world champion is far from over.
