Saddleworth Show will be staged at a new venue this year — with a novel twist.

The joint venture between the Saddleworth and Oldham Metro Rotary Clubs is moving to Well-i-hole Farm, Greenfield, and will have a country fair theme.

One of the family attractions at the June 28 event is expected to be an ice rink.

Event chairman Steve Hughes, of Oldham Metro Club, said: “The plan for 2015 is to take the show back to its roots It will focus on a country fair concept with acts, attractions and activities for children and families on that theme.

“With the theme, we thought it would be good to stage it on a working farm.”

Organisers are already lining up falcons, chainsaw carvers, donkeys, llamas, a petting zoo, sheep shearing, sheep dog and dog training. There will be dry-stone walling, a climbing wall, craft and sport demonstrations, archery, fly fishing and a casting contest.

Car enthusiasts will be able to see a favourite display of classic cars and the show’s highly-popular duck race will take place in the afternoon on the River Tame, which flows through the site.

And a special stage will host bands and a Young Talent Showcase with additional support from craft, charity and food stalls.

Mel Farrar, the show committee’s secretary, said: “We have by no means ruled out returning to Churchill playing fields for future shows.

“”It is a really great venue in a magnificent setting, but since we were making a change from Saddleworth School, we thought this was a good time to try something entirely new.”
