Tributes paid to a ‘perfect gentleman’

A DAUGHTER has paid tribute to her father, a Second World War veteran and professor honoured for his contribution to scientific research.

Professor Frank Jordan MBE died last Friday, aged 97, at Stoneswood House care home in Delph, where he had lived since moving from the Wirral in 2012.

Born in Newport, South Wales, Prof Jordan trained as a vet and worked in private practice before enlisting as a captain in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps and serving in Burma during World War II.

After the war he joined the Welsh Ministry of Agriculture before becoming a lecturer in the department of veterinary preventative medicine at the University of Liverpool, retiring in 1985.

He had a building named after him at the research station at Leahurst,Wirral and in 2013 received a plaque commemorating his work in the field of avian medicine by the President of the World Veterinary Poultry Association.

The funeral takes place in Cheshire on February 2. Prof Jordan, whose wife, Isabella (82), died 14 years ago, is survived by his two children, Mary and Andrew, four grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.
