MP calls for action on petrol prices
Date published: 20 January 2015
OLDHAM MP Michael Meacher is demanding an inquiry into petrol prices.
The Oldham West and Royton MP said despite the rapid fall in the price of oil, prices at the pumps are still higher than they should be.
“An inquiry will identify who profits from oil prices, who determines the price of fuel at the pumps and why the price does not reflect the global oil price.”
The UK has the highest diesel price, third-highest petrol price and highest fuel duty in the Western world.
“My constituents need the lowest prices at the pump and any fall in oil should be reflected in savings for them, not in any other place,” said Mr Meacher.
