A TEENAGER arrested in connection with an attack on world title-chasing boxer Anthony Crolla has been released without charge.

The 17 year old was arrested after the Chadderton boxer was hit over the head with a concrete slab while confronting burglars running from a break-in next door to his home in Halsey Close, Chadderton.

Crolla (28) suffered concussion and a broken ankle in the struggle and was forced to postpone this month’s fight with Cuban Richard Abril for the WBA world lightweight title in Manchester.

Crolla, who is recovering at home, said he hopes to be back in action by summer.

The boxer had 12 stitches on his forehead and an operation to fix the bones in his foot after the attack.

Though he managed to grab one of the burglars, the other picked up a brick or lump of concrete and threw it at him.

Crolla staggered back to his house with blood pouring from his head as his girlfriend dialled 999.

The police investigation continues. Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 9035 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
